What drives me beyond anything else is a fascination with the ever growing interconnectedness of the world around us. Particularly in such a globalized society, we live in a delicate spider web of externalities, unforeseen consequences, and third order effects. There is inherent tension as the actions of strangers pull at the strands that hold our self interests. In my work to understand the different linkages holding us together in the world, I find the resulting analysis beautiful and empowering, as we learn to make sense of a complicated and sometimes nonsensical world.
With the Milstein program, I hope to use my personal background in interconnectedness and develop it to my majors in Mathematics and Economics. I strive to merge technology and data analysis together with our investigation of the world around us, as I have done before in bioinformatics – exploring the effect of blood pH on protein folding – or in behavioral economics – finding whether social interaction affects racial bias. Along the way, I hope to discover meaningful insight into the human experience. I look forward to making an impact on the world, and sharing my interests with my peers.
