In eighth grade, what drew me to computer science was how fun it was. I loved the logical and problem-solving aspects in addition to the tedious act of actually writing code. I knew that technology, and therefore computer science, impacted almost every aspect of our lives, but it wasn’t until high school that I began to take interest in the weight of those impacts.
In my freshman year of high school, I was given the opportunity to participate in a program that partnered with San Quentin Rehabilitation Center, a men’s prison in Northern California. Through correspondence and multiple visits, I realized how instrumental and influential technology was to the modern carceral system. I’m extremely passionate about exploring how the datafication of the system draws the line between humanity and inhumanity.
On campus, I volunteer with the Cornell University Parole Initiative. In my free time, I love reading, sewing, cooking, and watching movies.
