Faculty Fellows

Call for Faculty Fellows 2025-27

The Milstein Program in Technology and Humanity in the College of Arts and Sciences seeks two new Faculty Fellows for a one to two-year appointment, starting Fall 2025.

The appointment provides a faculty member with an opportunity to teach an innovative course that integrates technology education with the humanities for Arts and Sciences students broadly focused on active and applied learning, qualitative/quantitative research skills, and/or digital humanities methods. The Program seeks applications from faculty members in Arts and Sciences who take pleasure in teaching undergraduates, in fostering team building and a sense of inclusivity, and in developing a unique synergy between disparate areas of the College. Current and former fellows have included Lori Khatchadourian (NES), Adam T. Smith (ANTHR), Marianthi Papalexandri-Alexandri (MUSIC),  Sarah Kreps (Government), Jeremy Braddock (Literatures in English), Malte Zietwitz (STS), and Andrew Moisey (Art History).

Program Mission

The Milstein Program in Technology and Humanity, established in 2018, provides a Cornell experience for a group of 100 highly talented students (25 per cohort) seeking a distinct interdisciplinary experience that will prepare them to excel in an increasingly digital world. Grounded in the liberal arts and integrating computing and information science, as well as unique opportunities at Cornell Tech, the Milstein Program provides a foundation for students to explore and understand the 21st century human experience, and to develop the technical, intellectual, and management skills they need to become innovators and leaders. Further, the program serves to set Cornell apart from its peers by bridging the Ithaca and Cornell Tech campuses—and the humanities, social sciences, computer science, and technology disciplines—to deliver an innovative curriculum that meets the demands of today’s students and the global workplace.

Program Curriculum

Milstein Scholars are typically admitted prior to their freshman year, with an additional small number of students applying to join in middle of their first year. The only restriction is that students must major in the College of Arts and Sciences. Milstein Scholars participate in the collaborative, engaged First Year Project (AS 1111), attend an eight-week in-residence program at Cornell Tech (summer after their first year), take a sophomore elective course in a curated list, and design and execute a Junior Project (AS 3200). They have funding opportunities to pursue summer research and externships in their chosen fields. The on-going M Studio (AS 3111) combines hands-on workshops with a campus speaker series and professional development. Students in the Milstein Program also collaborate with community partners on civic-minded projects using technology (software, applications, devices, etc.). Approximately half of the students in the Milstein Program major (or double-major) in Computer Science or Information Science.

Former Milstein Program Faculty Fellow Courses:

The Fellowship

The Milstein Program provides a half-time appointment (generally providing relief from half of the teaching load in the faculty member’s home department and/or program), plus supplemental research support of $3,000. Fellows then teach one additional course per academic year as a Faculty Fellow and will participate in program events. We welcome innovative course design.
