Problem Statement

How might we use technology to reduce inequitable information barriers in the Collegetown housing search process?

The Project

Map CTOWN was inspired by both personal experience and insights from interviews of Cornell undergraduates about the process of finding off-campus housing in Collegetown. Many students don’t know what rental options exist or who to contact in the race to sign leases. This challenge is faced by thousands of students each year, may of whom have the same question: where do I even begin? There is a clear need for a centralized resource that provides key listing information and is available to all. This database provides listing information to reduce student stress and provide equity for all Cornell renters.

With over 700 listings compiled using both landlord-verified and crowdsourced data, our platform offers a comprehensive resource of apartments and houses in Collegetown that meet the varied needs and budgets of Cornell students. By creating an inclusive and user-friendly platform, we hope to empower our fellow students with information and simplify the process of finding the perfect home away from home.
