Our Own Archivists: Black Women's Homes and Families

Research Question:

What is the emotional and symbolic relationship between Black women, their families, and the spaces they call home — cities, houses, neighborhoods, rooms?

Project Summary:

I am working with my friends, neighbors, and family in Chicago to explore the Black family, chosen and blood, through the eyes of the women who experience and steward it; to navigate my childhood and life experiences, and those of other Black women; to examine the relationship between space, place, the family, and the self; to ultimately create a digital and tactile archive centering these experiences, a repository that is at once a biography and personal ethnography, and an ode to the multiverse and universe of Black women’s familial and spatial experiences.
