Project Description: Our project consists of uniting a collection of audio interviews and
performances and interacting with interviewees to create visualizations of their pieces. In
doing so, we hope to capture the varying visual beauty of sound, and delve into how
different people perceive music differently. We will interview various students and faculty
members from musical clubs and communities across Cornell to feature in our mini
documentary. Our group will focus on featuring three instrumental groups on campus,
including Cornell Chimes, a member of an orchestra, and a member of a cultural
ensemble.
The documentary will include answers to the questions asked by interviewers, the pieces
played by the interviewees, and finally the visualizations of those pieces. We intend to
feature three individuals, finally combining their portraits with the clips and visualizations
of the vocalist groups to create a cohesive audio-visual documentary.
The visualizations created will be dependent on the answers given by the interviewees,
and may range from spectral analyses to artificially generated visualizations.
A tentative duration of the audio visual documentary will be approximately 8 minutes with
the first minute being introduction, the last minute being conclusion, and the minutes in
between being the audio portraits. Each audio portrait will most likely be divided with 20
seconds dedicated to the answers to the questions posed by the interviewers and the
remaining 40 seconds being the visualization along with the piece.
